Calefax Rietkwintet

Anoniem La Spagna
Sánchez Verdú Libro de glosas
Anoniem arr. Boekhoorn Suite uit Libre Vermell
Granados Goyescas
Ravel Rapsodie Espagnole

Calefax with their set of instruments comprising oboes, clarinets, fagots and the like keep on surprising listeners with a veritable cornucopia of sound. No wonder that many composers write works specially for them which are performed here in the Netherlands but also in far flung lands. This concert is full of warm-blooded Iberian music ranging from two early anonymous works, romantic pieces by Granados and Ravel, to recent contemporary compositions by Sánchez.

This concert is part of the wind series: Blazers! Wind players give music its colour. Their endless variations in sound and timbre turn music into a real experience. They absolutely belong in The Hague Classics series: Haagse Klassieken. In their own series two wind ensembles put their instruments through their paces in music of all times and for all tastes. The Nederlands Blazers Ensemble presents a subdued programme with Dvorak taking the lead and a comical programme on the theme of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Then comes Calefax. Five reed players in a warm-blooded programme of Spanish style music.
